PTV Drive-In:
Dynamic Risk Management (DRM) for ADAS and ADS
This free webinar is about a research on a validation methodology and a corresponding virtual environment for autonomous driving algorithms. The proposed method is unique: It is based on analysis of real incident data and drivers’ decision-making in critical traffic situations. This is used to build a validation environment with traffic flow simulation software PTV Vissim. This validation environment can be used to identify potentially dangerous situations in traffic, as well as to calibrate the behavior of autonomous vehicles, taking in account different customer preferences in driving behavior.

About the presenter: Prof. Hideo Inoue is the Director of Advanced Vehicle Research Institute at the Kanagawa Institute of Technology in Japan. He is also a Visiting Professor at the Smart Mobility Research Center of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT). In 2009, Prof. Inoue received the US Government Award for Special Appreciation for contributions to the development and popularization of safety technology.

PTV Drive-In:
Estimating effectiveness of AEB by using driver error models
Automatic emergency braking (AEB) is one of the most popular ADAS. The effectiveness of ADAS, which aim to reduce traffic accidents, is often assessed under test protocols. But test protocols are mostly identified in representative accident situations. The focus of this free webinar is a study that succeeded in reproducing an accident situation at intersections, by using driver error models in the traffic simulation. By comparing the simulation result with and without AEB, it was possible to quantitatively estimate the effect of AEB in actual traffic conditions.

About the presenter: Yasutomo Okumura is responsible for development of vehicle and traffic safety technologies at Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan. An engineer by education, Mr. Okumura has held various positions at Toyota group since 2004, mostly around development of human body FE models for collision safety.
